Salish Thompson River Native Indian Basket Klickitat
Early 1900's salish thompson river? Woven native american indian basket. It measures 6 high x 12 x 8 1/2.
This is in good sturdy condition and is an unusual rectangular shape, there are about 7 or 8 stitches missing from the rim area. A efw of the deep red and black design stitches are missing. Around the bottom it is a little wider stitch and a little lighter cloor than the rest of the basket.
I think it was repaired or replacde some time ago. It doesn't look new at all. It is very sturdy and has a few small holes poked into the sides (not visible from the photos really) with a basketmakers awl, i assume, where buckskin thong was probably attached to make a handle or strap.
This is a pretty color basket and would look good on your shelf. It's a little dusty but in very good, sturdy condition with the above exceptions.
